In the British sportscar manufacturer’s latest press release, we’re offered with grand words like “sales increase”, “forward strategy” and “excellent result”, words that don’t mean anything to us petrolheads. But the Norfolk-based boutique automaker slipped an interesting detail too, coming in the guise of an “exciting reveal” at the posh Geneva Motor Show.
Chief executive officer Jean-Marc Gales stated that his company is revealing “an exciting new car” this March, a product that’ll ”remain true to its core pillars of lightness, performance and driving purity by embodying all of them in a most desirable package.” With the track-focused but street-legal Elise S Cup already known to everybody, this begs the question what Lotus model is there in the pipeline?
Gales disclosed late last year that due to financial problems, the company he runs “won’t have the funds to build all-new cars in the next few years,” and that “our existing platforms have plenty of potential.” The man also told that an updated Evora is in the works, purportedly slated for a debut at Geneva in March.
The 2015 Lotus Evora facelift was heralded by Jean as “fantastic” to drive around Norwich, with the guy reckoning that the update will manage to give the Porsche boys a run for the money. Wait, what? That is right. I don’t know whether this guy has a driver’s license or not, but chief exec Gales surely doesn’t know on which side of the sportscar food chain the Evora stands compared to the German yardstick.
Regarding what’s in store for those that’re remotely interested in the 2015 Lotus Evora facelift, expect the usual minor nip & tuck job on the outside, a lil’ extra equipment inside, as well as a lightened up Cup variant, following the same recipe as the Elise S Cup. It’s not known whether the Toyota V6 will also be squeezed for some extra grunt, but car guys out there know that the 2015 Evora will be a big letdown.
Editor's note: if he lived, what would Colin Chapman do to rejuvenate his badly managed company?
