After officially announcing that Finnish driver, Kimi Raikkonen, would stay at Lotus for the 2013 F1 season, some perhaps wondered if he was the right match for the job. However, his more than respectable performance this season, after an absence of two seasons from the world of F1 have proved that he is still at the top of his game.
The boss of the Lotus F1 team, Eric Boullier, said that Kimi did need some time to adapt and adjust, but he is confident that next season he will improve even further. "I am more than happy that he is staying because that is always a bit of a gamble when someone comes back to F1 [. . .] If it looked like it took him a while from the outside we don't believe it took him that long. And we believe next year will be much more rewarding in terms of points, because we have been through this learning stage this season [. . .] We gave him the car and the opportunity to develop, and we are delighted that he wants to stay with us [. . .] I think he was pretty quickly on the pace, and definitely he never lost his talent nor speed [. . .] But it was just a question for him of understanding the format of the race weekend, and all the requirements of driving."
The team has high expectations of Raikkonen, but if his adaptability and perfomrance so far are anything to go by, we see him as a serious contender for the top spot, next year, battling it out with Vettel and Alonso.
