Lotus Elise Facelift Presented

Lotus has prepared a facelift for its lightweight, sport, go-kart like (and the list could go on forever) Elise.

The new incarnation of the car follows the current eco-awareness trend and promises to offer decreased CO2 emissions and an improved fuel economy figure.

The car adopts the family design introduced by its bigger sister, the Evora. At the front, it has received a new front bumper, which incorporates larger air intakes. This is complemented by a new headlight design, featuring LED daytime running lights (a premiere for the Elise).

The drivers of the cars who will be left behind on the bends by the Elise will be able to see a new rear bumper, which houses a new diffuser and a redesigned engine cover.

All these changes give the fresh Elise a 4 percent reduced drag coefficient, thus improving fuel economy and reducing the sports car’s emissions.

The Elise line-up has a new entry level version, equipped with the 136 HP 1.6 liter engine (a displacement never featured before on the Elise), that emits 155 grams of CO2/km. This represents a 13 percent reduction compared to the previous entry-level model. This has been achieved through the use of Valvematic and Dual VVT-i systems. In addition to that, the naturally aspirated version of the 1.8 liter engine now produces 192 HP ( 196 grams of CO2/km).

All the Elise models receive a six-speed close-ratio gearbox. The facelifted version of the Elise rides on new alloy rims. The car also receives a pretty unexpected feature (for an Elise), in the form of a cruise control system. The revised Elise’ pricing has not been revealed yet.

To be honest, our minds’ version of the facelifted Lotus Elise doesn’t have too many things in common with Lotus' "fuel eco" one, but we won’t tell you about it, as we’re sure you have your own.
