Over the past year or so, we've had more than our share of life-size versions of existing cars made of LEGO bricks. Some were more exciting than others, like say the McLaren Senna vs the Chevy Silverado. What this past year didn’t bring so far is a good interpretation of a motorcycle. But now we got it.
On August 1, LEGO will begin selling a new model in the Creator Expert line: a replica of a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy recreated to the tiniest of details.
Built with the help of the bike's manufacturer itself, the Fat Boy toy is made of 1,023 LEGO pieces and measures 7 inches high and wide (18 cm), and 12 inches long (30 cm).
The tiniest of detail copying we mentioned earlier can be found all around the Harley. It comes complete with solid-disc wheels, teardrop fuel tank, integrated speedometer, and dual exhaust pipes. There are even Harley logos on each side, and throwbacks to the Wicked Red paint scheme here and there.
“We looked at every nut and bolt on the bike, all the finishes, and every small detail," said in a statement Brad Richards, Harley's VP of design.
"Working with the LEGO team on this project allowed us to bring that same attention to detail to a collaborative product, and to celebrate a brand that inspired the imagination and creativity of many of us at Harley-Davidson from a young age, including myself.”
Perhaps more important than the Creator Harley-Davidson Fat Boy is the life-size replica of the bike LEGO built to support the launch.
The replica is meant to take its rightful place among real motorcycles at various Harley-Davidson events in the future, but also at some of LEGO’s stores.
The huge Fat Boy is made of 69,569 pieces, weighs more than half a ton and it took 14 people 865 hours to assemble.
As soon as it becomes available on August 1 (VIP members can buy it as early as July 17), the LEGO Creator Expert Harley-Davidson Fat Boy will sell for $99.99.
The life-size replica is unfortunately not for sale.
