As opposed to last year, when we’ve had a wealth of great small brick cars entering the range of LEGO Speed Champions, this year it seems there will be only one novelty. Yet its name is sure to more than make up for it: 1974 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.0.
Scheduled to become available on August 1, the new brick car will sell for $14.99 on the toy maker's website. It comprises 180 pieces that, when assembled, will form a familiar shape once again, as the 911 Turbo was in LEGO’s lineup before, only painted green and sold in pairs with a 911 RSR.
This time the car will shine on the shelves on its own, complete with all the accessories usually offered for Speed Champions.
Aside from the car itself, the new LEGO set includes a driver minifigure complete with helmet and a t-shirt with the Porsche crest on the chest, and 3 cones “for racing play action.” The car itself is true to the real thing to the tiniest of details, including removable windshield, wheels with rubber racing tires and the rear spoiler.
When fully assembled, the toy car will measure 1 inch high (2.5 cm), 5 inches long (12.7 cm) and 2 inches wide (5 cm).
The LEGO Speed Champions collection was born in 2015. It was then Danish toy maker signed licensing deals with Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche to use the image and name of their vehicles. In the beginning, there were seven different Lego models offered in this line, as well as four sets of stand-alone vehicles.
Since then, the lineup grew to include models made by Ford (1968 Ford Mustang Fastback, M-Sport Ford Fiesta, Ford GT) and Dodge (2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and the 1970 Dodge Charger R/T).
Last year, the LEGO Speed Champions offer was much greater, as it included the Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa, the Porsche 919 Hybrid and 911 RSR, as well as Ferrari's Ultimate Garage.
