One of the challenges we throw at each other in the office is to try and remember the early years of the R35 GT-R, when Nissan tried to convince the tuning world to stay away from Godzilla by shouting about warranty-voiding matters. The quest? Try to bring back those memories without even showing slight traces of smiling.
Actually, a "LOL" would be the natural reaction, given the extent to which the aftermarket has build on the R35 GT-R platform. We're here to bring you that latest example of that, which involves a heavily tuned Nissan supercar enjoying itself on the dyno.
We're dealing with a New York City-registered GT-R, but one that has stayed true to its Asian roots over the course of the tuning process. We'll start with the extreme Liberty Walk bodykit. One of the most famous Japanese widebody conversions, LB Walk has long reached the US and you can easily recognize such kits by the riveted-on-look fenders (you'll have to cut into the fenders of the car to install there). These are usually associated with oversized wings, such as the one we have here, or at least with massive tail-like spoilers, when the kits are fitted to Ferrari 458s.
Then there's the Armytrix exhaust. The Taiwan-based specialist delivers some of the loudest exhaust systems out there and the one present here is no exception. Whether under full load, or on the engine overrun phase, this exhaust allows the twin-turbo 3.8-liter under the hood to unleash a demonic soundtrack while the Nissan is on the dyno.
Oh, and let's not forget that the exhaust also delivers a bit of a fiery surprise, so the hellish setup can be considered complete.
Aside from show-off machines such as the one seen here, the R35 tuning realm holds two other major categories. And we're talking about the 2,000+ whp drag racing monsters, as well as about focused time attack racecars. To put things another way, it doesn't matter which trend you're following, as the GT-R modding world has something for every taste.
