Porsche 911 GT3 RS Walks Nissan GT-R in a Drag Race: GT-R Below Official Numbers

When Nissan came up with the current R35 GT-R back in 2007, the Japanese carmaker almost trolled the Porsche 911 Turbo. Knowing its underdog status, Nissan pushed official numbers to the limit of credibility, whether we're talking Nurburgring laps or drag racing adventures.

Don't get us wrong, Godzilla deserves tons of respect for being able to outgun much more expensive supercars, but we're focusing on the number issue here.

And while many would like to believe figures are not all that important, the real world translation of that is that you might just end up losing a drag race to a naturally aspirated 911 - as it happens, Porsche has always been conservative about its numbers, so don't be surprised if the German go-fast machines beat their official figures.

This is precisely what happens in the piece of footage below. Coming from Evo Magazine, the clip pits a GT3 RS PDK against a 2016 GT-R Track Edition. The two engage in a half-mile battle, but the quarter mile performance is also recorded.

Interestingly, Godzilla can't even grab the start. Despite it's all-wheel-drive, the Nissan needs 3.4 seconds to hit 60 mph, while the Rennsport Neunelfer covers the same task in 3 seconds flat.

Sure, we've seen GT-Rs performing better and we're not talking about the prepped surface of a drag strip here, but we're still dealing with a real world test that doesn't look good for the R35.

Then again, we must also consider the fact that while you can buy a GT-R for its MSRP, this isn't the case with the GT3 RS (it would be with a Turbo, though). Since Porsche only produces around 2,000 of these circuit specials per year, grabbing one can be quite an adventure.

P.S.: Number geeks shouldn't fret, as the clip below delivers all the figures you need to sort out this battle.
