With the 2014 Lexus IS looking that good, the automaker must be nuts not making the hardcore F version for it. And it seems that there will be one in the future.
Lexus IS chief engineer Junichi Furuyama hinted at a new IS F in an interview recently. However, he said that the new one won’t benefit from the mighty 5-liter V8 due to emission regulations.

“That V8 is a little difficult to meet Euro 6 [emission standards]." said Furuyama. "We probably need a new engine for the F model.”

Also, he said that they are much more attracted to fit it with a naturally-aspirated engine because of the knowledge and technology they have developed for them, as well as for more dynamism and lack of turbo lag.

It’s hard to say what engine will power a future Lexus IS F. Based on Furuyama’s declaration, not even they are sure what to bolt under it’s hood. If there will be no more V8 and they still want aspirated engine, the only one left is the 3.5-liter V6 currently found on the IS 350. Bur how much power would they be able to squeeze from it?
