Lancaster police have identified the man they arrested earlier this week, after he crashed a pickup truck carrying wet white paint. He is Roberto Ramirez, 29, and video of his arrest is available at the bottom of the page.
Ramirez is from Delaware, where he stole the truck from. He drove into Lancaster and, according to Lancaster Online, hit a flatbed trailer because of speeding, which caused his truck to overturn. All the paint stored in the back flowed freely on the street and splashed nearby cars, and covered Ramirez from head to toe.
“An excavator had just been unloaded from the trailer, and cones were set up as a flagger diverted traffic,” the publication reports. “The driver tried to change to the right lane, but drove up the ramp extended from the flatbed, police said. The pickup landed, struck two parked vehicles on the east side of South Queen, flipped onto the driver side, spun and struck another parked vehicle on the west side, police said. Several other parked vehicles were struck by debris or paint.”
Ramirez was helped out of the wreck by concerned passers-by and he actually tried to walk away from the accident before police arrived. He was all white from the paint, but he still attempted to get away as if nothing had happened.
When he saw the cops, he came back to the scene of the crash. It turns out, he had good reasons to want to flee, as the truck had been reported stolen back in Delaware.
He even put up a fight with the police officers, taking advantage of the fact that he was very slippery from the paint. The scuffle left 2 police officers covered in paint as well.
Ramirez was eventually taken into custody, where he was cleaned up for his mug shot and he was formally charged. He is now facing time in prison for resisting arrest, receiving stolen property, reckless driving, 7 counts of accident involving an unattended vehicle or property, and 2 counts of recklessly endangering another person.
Firefighters had to work overtime to hose down the spilled paint from the street.
