Traffic on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was temporarily shut down on Sunday, after cars blocked fellow motorists so 3 other vehicles could put on a sideshow.
The term is generically used for this type of behavior on the road, which sees drivers show their skill by doing burnouts and donuts. As the video at the bottom of the page shows, traffic was shut down so 3 cars could do the show while cameras rolled.
The California Highway Patrol was alerted of the disturbance by trapped drivers, and officers managed to arrest the driver of the white Ford Mustang. In the video, its driver is seen doing the stunts with the door open, until one of the tires comes off the rim.
Other drivers were also ticketed and had vehicles impounded, but officers believe that more people were involved in the sideshow, working to block traffic – they just couldn’t catch them.
Videos shot by trapped drivers will be used as evidence in court, the force says on the official Facebook page.
“The driver of the white Mustang will be booked for reckless driving and exhibition of speed and his vehicle impounded for 30 days,” CHP says.
Other drivers were cited for mechanical violations and another one directly involved in the sideshow has had his car impounded as he was found to be driving without a license.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for calling in the crimes witnessed as well as providing us with video evidence to assist with charges filed. Again we want to remind all of the dangers involved to participants and innocent bystanders from side show involvement and reckless driving,” CHP adds.
Sideshows are becoming increasingly popular in California, and the Bay Bridge seems to be a favorite location for car aficionados looking to show off.
