For us, the highlight of Top Gear Series 22 Episode 1 was their review of the Lamborghini Huracan. Richard Hammond was the one who got behind the wheel of the latest V10 supercar from San'Agata Bolognese to see if it's as flamboyant as previous mid-engined monsters.
Of course, we actually tested the Huracan last year and sampled the same vicious power and futuristic looks. So what we actually want to share with you guys know is the fact that the Huracan is faster around a track than the Aventador, at least around Top Gear's improvised track, that is.

In a drag race, the Huracan has shown it's only slightly slower than an Aventador with a tuned exhaust. But out on the twisties, this is actually the faster car. That's how technology works these days, as better traction management and Lamborghini's first twin-clutch gearbox give it an advantage.

This video was uploaded minutes ago on the newly-established Stig Youtube channel and it shows cockpit footage of the record lap. What record lap? Well, the Huracan is now the 4th fastest car on the Top Gear track with a time of 01:15.8. Ahead of it are much more radical machines like the Ariel Atom V8 500, BAC Mono and Pagani Huayra.

Crucially, the LP610-4 is slightly faster than a McLaren MP4-12C and 0.7 of a second faster than the Aventador and its 700 hp V12 engine.

Of course, Lamborghini are not just about track action. The design and the interior have to be just as interesting as the V10 engine, and they are. But where the Huracan lets itself down is in driving excitement. You can definitely tell that the Stig is not having a lot of fun, as there's more managed understeer than tail-happiness here.

It's not as point and precise as a Ferrari 458 Italia, but for some people, that simply doesn't matter. Lamborghini had 700 orders (from people who'd never driven the car) after just one month and they currently and to date they about 3,500 orders, 2,500 of which have been delivered.
