Kubica Might Test Alone for Renault at Valencia

Although Vitaly Petrov recently told the media that securing an agreement with Renault F1 Team is vital to occur by the kick-off of the Valencia testing on February 1st, the team's new manager seems to think otherwise.

Eric Boullier now confirmed that there's a high possibility that his team will only field Robert Kubica in the season-opening test at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. The Pole already visited the Enstone facility in recent days and proceeded to his first seat-fitting on the new R30.

We are still looking at several drivers available on the market. Two of them are experienced, two of them are rookies. We are now the last established team (without two drivers) and the situation is very different than in July, when you could discuss with everybody,” said Boullier, according to Autosport.

We'd love to take the decision before the test. If not Robert will start the development alone,” added the French manager.

As for the options left on the market, Boullier did give us a glimpse of how the list of potential drivers looks like, suggesting that Nick Heidfeld and Vitaly Petrov are definitely two of the options. On the one hand, an experienced driver would give the team a great boost in terms of car development, whilst a rookie like Petrov would bring a huge contribution in terms of team sponsorship.

The driver could be French, but he could be Russian, Chinese, German, Austrian or whatever you want,” was another clue given by Boulier when talking to the aforementioned publication.
