KTM North America announces a recall which is also aimed at certain Husqvarna motorcycles, all belonging to the 2015 model year series. No incidents have been reported so far, but KTM is advising that the owners of the specified motorcycles stop riding them and get in touch with their local authorized dealer.
The recall affects 2,864 KTM machines and 457 Husqvarna bikes, with displacements ranging between 125cc and 450cc. Two-stroke bikes between 125 and 300cc and four-stroke machines with engines 250cc to 450cc fall under the restrictions of this recall and must be checked by authorized personnel. The bikes have been sold at KTM and Husqvarna dealers between June and October.

Fork pistons may become stuck

KTM says that the pistons inside the forks of the specified motorcycles may become stuck, and lead to a major malfunction of the bikes’ suspension system. While the standard politically-correct expression is that this “increases the risk of a crash”, we’d invite someone to ride an enduro bike with no suspensions on rough terrain, possibly laying a heavy hand on the throttle and sharing the experience with us.

Obviously, these machines are not at all safe to operate and we’re 100% backing KTM’s stop riding advice. After checking, the bikes whose forks will be found defective will receive a free repair. If you are not sure which model year your bike is, you can check your VIN. If it has the letter F in the 10th position, it’s time to contact your KTM or Husqvarna dealer and schedule a meeting. KTM also mentions that all the affected bikes have been manufactured in Austria, most likely to avoid the “low-quality Indian craftsmanship” stories which surface every now and then when something doesn’t work as it was supposed to.
