Porsche 918 Spyder Goes “Driftin’ Finland” During Porsche Driving Experience

If the Porsche 918 Spyder would have been launched around, let’s say, 1963, the Beach Boys would have changed “Surfin’ USA“ to “Driftin’ Finland” without even blinking. Here’s the answer, in case you are wondering why would they ever do that.

Of course the combination of sun, sand and big waves is always better than ice, snow and temperatures way below zero. But when the mighty Porsche 918 Spyder comes into play, nobody will care about the weather, especially if by play we mean drifting.

In case you consider that such a machine should belong on a circuit or at least on a winding road or a mountain pass, think again, because the 918 can drift. And it can do it with a high dose of elegance that has Porsche written all over it.

In that respect, Finland is probably the ideal place to drift a state-of-the-art hybrid machine as the Porsche 918 Spyder and Porsche knows that very well. That’s the main reason why the supercar was present at the Porsche Driving Experience winter camp.

Now, since we would expect to see a bunch of 911s and Caymans having fun in the snow, waltzing through the cold air during such an event, we don’t mind seeing that the 918 is equally apt in the art of drifting as its internal combustion engined peers.

Then again, there’s still a mystery regarding why would you do that in a Porsche 918 Spyder when there are other options more related to what the car was supposed to do in the first place. Like, for example, racing the Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1 for the entertainment of the filthy rich.
