Models like the Renault Captur or Opel Mokka are doing quite well in Europe, as more and more customers are finding B-segment crossovers are ideal for their everyday needs. The Koreans have strangely been missing from this nice, something that's about to change as Hyundai debuts the all-new ix25 at the Beijing Auto Show. Kia, hasn't got its version planned out yet, but we know that it's at least being considered.
Speaking to CarAdvice at the New York Auto Show soiree, Kia design boss Peter Schreyer hinted at a production version of the Niro concept by saying: "I think the B-SUV segment is a very interesting segment, we are considering these kind of things, the Niro was a show car that was in this direction.”
The company official believes the constantly growing market for B-SUVs would allow both Kia and Hyundai to compete with a similar product. Of course, Kia doesn't desperately need to target the nice since it already has the Soul. There is, however, room below it, since the second generation Soul is based on the compact car platform of the cee'd hatch.
Just as the Hyundai ix25 will slot under the ix35 (Santa Fe), so too would the baby Kia be marketed as a smaller Sportage. The Niro Concept of last year measured 4185mm long, 1850mm wide and 1558mm high. Its proportions are almost the same as a Peugeot 2008, so it's ideally sized, at least for European buyers.
