It turns out that the mysterious new Corvette variant Chevrolet told it will debut in the Big Apple is the drop-top version of the 2015 Corvette Z06. Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 with 625 horsepower and 635 ft-lb (860 Nm) of torque, the seventh generation Corvette in roofless Z06 flavor is the most powerful convertible ever produced by the American car manufacturer.
The heart of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 balances performance and efficency by using technologies such as direct injection, Active Fuel Management (or cylinder deactivation) and continuously variable valve timing.

Customers have a choice of two gearboxes: a standard seven-speed stick shift with Active Rev Match or an optional 8L90 eight-speed automatic. The automatic's seventh and eight act as overdrive gears, with ratios of 0.86 and 0.65.

Chevrolet thinks very highly of this in-house developed auto box, declaring it can perform full-throttle upshifts "up to eight-hundredths of a second quicker than those of the dual-clutch transmission offered in the Porsche 911."

The electrically operated fabric roof is offered in four color options and can be openened or closed from inside the car or remotely, using the car's key fob. It can be operated on the go, at speeds of up to 30 miles per hour (50 km/h). Lots of sound-absorbing padding and a glass rear window contribute to keeping the cabin quiet even at high freeway speeds.

Amazingly, Chevrolet engineers didn't use any structural reinforcements after hacking the roof off the 2015 Z06 Corvette, the aluminium structure being 20 percent stiffer than the previous generation fixed-roof Z06. Circa 186,000 computational hours of modeling were used by the engineers to develop the lightweight yet sturdy frame.

If standard features don't measure up to your expectations, the all-new 360-degree open-top Z06 can be equipped with the optional Z07 Performance Package, which includes Brembo carbon-ceramic matrix brakes, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires and adjustable front and rear aerodynamic components.

The new Z06 borrows the SLA-type front and rear suspension design from the Corvette Stingray, but it's uniquely calibrated for the higher performance threshold. Third-generation Magnetic Selective Ride Control dampers, adjustable for touring comfort or maximum track performance via the standard Driver Mode Selector, along with a smart electronic limited-slip differential, are standard features.

On the interior features front, the 2015 Corvette Z06 Convertible comes with leather everything, a flat-bottom steering wheel with carbon fiber center and two seating choices: a GT seat for all-around comfort and a Competition sport seat with more aggresive side bolstering. The Z06 comes in five interior colors, including two that are unique to Z06 – blue and dark gray.

Chevy will debut two other models at the New York Auto Show. According to different reports and spy shots, most possible candidates are the Trax compact crossover, a freshened up Spark subcompact and the 2015 Cruze, respectively.
