Jurgen Klopp Enjoys Upsetting the Upper Class in Latest Opel Astra Commercial

If there were a list of football managers that could make a very good living out of acting, Jurgen Klopp would top it, looking down on everybody else. It’s true that he seems cut out for comedies in particular, but at least he would be very good at it.
The German was in charge of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund for the past few years until he made a move to the Premier League in 2015 to manage the legendary Liverpool Football Club, where he appears to have settled in quite nicely, winning five of the last nine games and only losing one.

It’s also no secret that Jurgen Klopp is advertising for Opel (or Vauxhall), and the latest commercial in the “Upsets the luxury class” campaign for Astra features the new Liverpool FC manager.

The idea behind the campaign is simple: the new Astra offers the kind of extras that are usually only found in the upper segments, only in Opel’s case they are significantly more accessible. Which, apparently, is a problem for those who spent a lot more money on their expensive cars.

We all know that’s not how things go, but let’s not spoil Opel’s party and talk about desirability, projected image, and brand notoriety - just a few of the things that will never make well-off people downgrade from the types of vehicles they afford.

But even though that’s what these ads show, it’s not the reaction they seek in real life. Nope, they just want to make Opel clients feel like they’re smarter and less shallow than those guys. They can do just as well but with less money, and that’s just clever. You hear that, Opel Astra buyer? You’re clever. Just like Jurgen Klopp is. Watch him trying to tell you this but in other words in the clip below.
