The Chinese knockoff of the former generation Ford Focus sedan has been caught on film bearing the Jia Yue badge. Built by the Ford - Chang'an Automobile Group joint venture, the Jia Yue Focus sedan will be officially presented to the Chinese public this September at the Chengdu Motor Show.
Internally known as the CAF7000BEV, the ¥90,000 ($14,500) model is propelled by an old generation 1.8-liter naturally aspirated gas engine with an output of 122 horsepower and 118 lb-ft of torque. The less than modest oomph is handled by the front wheels via a standard manual transmission or an optional slush box sourced from Ford's old parts bin.
But the big news Chinese media reported today is that a Jia Yue Focus sedan electric is in the pipeline, although officials haven't confirmed this information yet. The eco-friendly pure-electric drive variant will presumably make use of a 107 kW (146 horsepower) motor juiced from a lithium-ion battery pack, with the car expected to tip the scale well beyond the 1,600-kilogram mark.
In terms of exterior styling, there are very few differences between the Jia Yue and Ford-badged Mk2 Focus sedan. First and foremost, there's the Daewoo-like oval logo adorned by two wings set onto a black background. The other change is represented by the design of the tail lights, more similar to the Kia Shuma than the Blue Oval's model.
Size-wise, the car measures 4,480 millimeters in length, it's 1,840 mm wide and has a height of 1,500 millimeters, while the wheelbase stands at 2,640 mm. Chang'an currently produces the third-gen Ford Focus as well, and by the time the Jia Yue Focus sedan will hit Chinese showrooms, Ford China will rollout the recently unveiled Escort underpinned by the same Mk2 Focus sedan platform.
