Even though the Beijing Auto Show will open its doors to the pulic on April 20, the Chinese carparazzi managed to capture the all-new Ford Escort without camouflage. Aesthetic wise, the vehicle is virtually the same as the Escort Concept unveiled by Ford at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show.
After ceasing European production in 2002, there was much debate among fans whether Ford will ever resurrect this model sometime in the future. After showcasing a concept Escort last year, the definitive answer came yesterday, when Blue Oval officials announced a production-ready Escort will be presented at the Beijing Auto Show in China.
The model will be manufactured by the Chang'an-Ford joint venture in China and will be sold in China, Russia, Latin America and a few other emerging markets. However, the vehicle won't find its way to North American and European markets according to Ford's UK chairman Mark Ovenden.
As for engine options, only two turbocharged gasoline units will be offered: a 1.5 and a 1.8-liter, respectively. The 2014 Ford Escort and the Focus sedan are similarly sized, but the Escort will feature a more spacious cabin.
According to reports, the cheapest version should cost around 130,000 yuan ($20,900), while the full-spec trim level will have a sticker price of 170,000 yuan ($27,300). The production version of the Escort will be one of 15 new Fords set to go on sale in China by 2015.
