The Fast Lane Car offers… its own blend of auto reviews. They don't always get their technical facts right, but we're not here to talk about that. We're here for a Fiat.
Because TFL shoots all of its videos at high altitude, they sometimes stumble upon test vehicles from major manufacturers who want to see how they handle mountain roads and thinner air.
A couple of days ago, they filmed what they describe as an "AWD Fiat 500L Mule". It's actually the test vehicle for a B-SUV from Jeep, which will also have a Fiat variant. The Italians even briefly showed a concept called the 500X at their factory behind closed doors. It went into obscurity, but is likely the very car we see here.
Both the Jeep B-SUV and the Fiat model will be built exclusively in Italy, or at least that's the plan right now. Of course, Marchionne likes to juggle production capacity, so Poland and Mexico assembly is possible.
We don't think the Jeepster will be built on the CUSW platform used by the Dart and Cherokee. Chrysler says it wants to make the replacements for the Patriot and Compass on the CUSW to make them in the same factories, which means this B-SUV is almost certainly a Fiat 500/Panda platform underneath.
Hat tipped to TFL Car for their clip:
