Four days ago, Japan was struck by the biggest earthquake in its history, followed by a devastating Tsunami. As a result, countless citizens have been killed or are missing, power has been lost as nuclear reactors in the country are affected and industrial production has been significantly reduced.
It seems that not even Godzilla is immune to the effects of the Tsunami, as the shipments of the 2012 Nissan GT-R to the US could see a delay. InsideLine reports that Nissan North America has a "sufficient supply" of the facelifted model already in the country, but did not reveal the exact number. "We have a comfortable amount," said David Reuter, Nissan North America vice president of corporate communications,
The Japanese Tochigi Plant, where the GT-R is built, is one of six Nissan facilities in Japan that have reported some damage to buildings or equipment in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Operations there have also been suspended until this Friday.
In a statement on Monday, the automaker said that "some Infiniti models and Nissan GT-R and 370Z may experience delays in shipment to the U.S. and Canada, with full impact still being assessed."
Customers awaiting the arrival of their brand-new LEAFs electric cars will be happy to know that a batch of 600 cars managed to leave Japan just before the earthquake struck.
Nissan is one of the makers that was most affected by the quake and Tsunami, as a total of 2,300 units were reported destroyed yesterday. Among them were some 1,300 expensive models, such as the Infiniti M, Infiniti FX and Infiniti MX.
