If you needed more proof that the economic crisis which hit the automotive industry in 2008 and made a mess of 2009 was over, than this is it. British manufacturer Jaguar posted its best sales for the month of August in two years.
The carmaker sold no less than 74 percent more vehicles than in August 2009, when it was gasping for air and government help. Jaguar sold 209 XFs and 1,116 XKs, only a small fraction of the total 9,952 new Jags which hit the roads.
"While August is traditionally a quieter month for car sales in the UK, we have had our busiest August for two years,” said Geoff Cousins, Jaguar UK managing director. ”Some compelling new models, competitive offers and a cut-through TV advertising campaign for XF and XJ are helping to drive retail sales.
"We are certainly seeing strong evidence of consumer confidence bouncing back. Every one of the 20 £85,500 XKR 75 models available in the UK has been ordered. Our dealers sold out in just three weeks following the global debut of this exclusive model at the Goodwood Festival if Speed in July.”
Earlier this year, autoevolution had a chance to test a 2011 Jaguar XK in the car's home country, on and around the Goodwood circuit. We tested pretty much all the XK versions available (count here the Coupe, Convertible, and R).
What we made of them can be viewed here and here. Long story short though, the good sales posted by Jaguar are backed by quite an impressive tech.
