Jaguar brags it has fitted the vehicle with everything it needs to offer “discreet protection” (sounds like a Tampax ad, we know). The car features a so called armoring system which is both effective and invisible.
The system has been built using high strength steels with Kevlar backing for the inner cell. It offers ballistic protection up to B7 level (the highest level), blast protection which can withstand the force of 15kg of TNT detonated within close proximity and “substantial” under floor grenade protection.
All these high tech armored plating has been fitted onto a long wheelbase XJ saloon. The car is powered by a 5.0l naturally aspirated direct-injection V8 petrol engine (385PS) which is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Despite the added weight, the car can reach 60 mph in 9.7 seconds and can accelerate to a top speed of 195km/h (121 mph).
Jaguar says that all that steel and Kevlar does not rip the vehicle of its usual luxury features. The interior is still wrapped in leather and veneer surfaces. Since Jaguar doesn't want the owner of a Sentinel to escape an attack and then die in a minor car crash, the XJ is also fitted with dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, side thorax airbags and side curtain airbags.
