Indian Motorcycle’s 2024 Lineup Asserts Its Dominance With Two Special Editions

You can't discuss Indian Motorcycle in a modern context without discussing the ground-breaking FTR standard bike. Introduced to the brand in 2019, this purpose-built street bike aimed at lovers of the BMW R nineT and the Triumph Speed Triple, the 2024 Indian FTR lineup is more robust than ever. With a dual over-head 1203 cc cam twin-pot engine jetting 120 horsepower and 87 lb-ft of torque across the lineup, each bike in the FTR class, from the entry-level standard FTR to the most tricked out FTR 100% R Carbon, every rider has a pocket rocket between their legs when an FTR is their bike of choice.

It'll only take $13,499 USD to get a base-model 2024 FTR in Indy Red or Black in your garage next year. But, of course, you can always turn things up a notch. The next tier up, the FTR Sport, offers an Indian-specific distribution of the class-leading Ride Command navigation and infotainment system controlled through a crisp, responsive four-inch center screen. With added goodies like a lean angle-sensitive ABS system and optional two-tone paint job finished in Storm Black and Grey along with the Standard Granite Gray on Blue, an entry price of $15,749 USD for this tier in the lineup is still $200 cheaper than a 2024 BMW RnineT.

Moving up to the FTR R Carbon, complete with model-exclusive carbon fiber accents, it's safe to call the R Carbon the meanest-looking in the FTR lineup. To add to the fun, the R Carbon ditches the ZF Sachs front and rear suspension of the lower two FTR models in the lineup in favor of Öhlins fully adjustable inverted telescopic cartridge forks up front and Öhlins piggyback IFPs in the rear for that little bit of extra handling performance high-end bike riders not only want but demand. But if the flashiest bike in town is what you're after, you can't do much better than the FTR x 100% R Carbon.

With a fuel tank finished in a stunning "Blue Candy" Carbon Fiber pattern and a wicked titanium Akrapovic exhaust to go along with all the added carbon fiber trim pieces, there's every reason to suspect the halo vehicle for the FTR lineup is worth every penny of its $18,999 USD base price. That's over $2,100 less than the equivalent Triumph Speed Triple RR. But don't be fooled. The 2024 Indian lineup is far from a one-trick pony.

For people who crave a more traditionally American take on a cruiser bike, the Indian Scout and its budget-friendly Scout Sixty cousin are here to excite without scaring the pants off your wallet. Just $11,749 USD will get you behind the handlebars of a Black Metallic Scout Sixty, complete with a 999 cc DOCH semi-dry-sump, V-twin engine jetting 78 horsepower and 65 lb-ft of torque. Moving slightly further up to the standard Scout won't be all that much worse on your finances either, with an entry MSRP of $13,249 USD, which is $1,150 less than the most basic Harley Davidson Softail Standard.

That extra cost nets a larger 1133 cc V-twin engine, making 100 horsepower and 72 torques with a 41 mm telescoping front fork and a 76 mm adjustable rear suspension. Admittedly, ABS is an optional extra across the Scout and Scout Sixty range. But any veteran biker will tell you you need anti-lock brakes on your bike this small a lot less than in your car, or even larger bikes, for that matter. While not as fully loaded as other bikes in the lineup, the Scout line consisting of the Scout Bobber, Scout Bobber Twenty, and the Scout Rogue have enough unique paint and trim options to cater to any rider's taste.

You could say much the same for the bike one size up from the Scout, the Indian Chief. With a heritage dating back to 1922, the Chief is one of the longest-lasting monikers in American bikes. After ten years since the current iteration of the Chief was introduced in 2014, the 2024 model still offers superb value. Its entry MRSP of 14,499 USD puts its price firmly behind the Harley Davidson Low Rider S. But it'd be wrong to say the Chief's 1811 cc air-cooled Thunderstroke 111 engine jetting 108 ft-lbs of torque and through a six-speed constant mesh gearbox isn't enough to get the blood flowing.

The same is true for two of the other bikes in the Chief lineup. The Sport Chief and Super Chief Limited all use the venerable Thunderstroke 116 engine to great effect. With an engine and layout to match any sensibilities, the Chief lineup is one where variety rules the day. The added KYB inverted telescopic 43 mm diameter front fork and dual Fox piggyback shocks on the Sport Chief are just added gravy on top for the performance-minded cruiser.

With a simple but sturdy steel tube main chassis with a cast aluminum rear subframe attached to a 46 mm telescoping front fork with twin gas-tube monotube shocks in the rear, this is a bike meant to cruise open highways from dawn to dusk like it's nothing. Moving up to the Chief Bobber Dark Horse and its extra-beefy 1890 cc V-twin making 120 torques, its $19,999 base price includes anti-lock brakes as standard, complete with the same four-inch Ride Command screen as the FTR. So then, here's to another 100 years of the Chief.

While not as well-known or well-celebrated as the Chief, the 2024 Indian Springfield, named after the town in Massachusetts where Indian Motorcycles was founded, takes qualities from the above-mentioned Indian Chief and melds them with the upmarket Roadmaster for a bike firmly in the middle and satisfying lovers of both. The Springfield Dark Horse is of particular note for its sagebrush smoke optional paint job and $24,999 USD. With a 116 variant of the Thunderstroke engine on offer with 128 lb-ft of torque, the Springfield is the perennial perfect middle ground.

But there's nothing "in the middle" or "ordinary" about the Indian Chieftain. Complete with a Thunderstroke 111 engine with 119 torques and an up-sized, seven-inch Ride Command screen complete with a 100-watt sound system, $23,999 USD is a small price to pay for the kind of curb appeal a Chieftain has in spades. Move up to the Chieftain Dark Horse with its Thunderstroke 116 engine, six optional paint colors, plus its optional GPS navigation integrated into the Ride Command system, and an extra $6,000 over the standard Chieftain sure gets you a lot of cool extras. Ditto, too, for the Chieftain Limited, starting at $28,999 USD.

But perhaps nowhere else in Indian's 2024 lineup does it excite quite as much as the Challenger. New for 2024 is the Challenger Elite. With only 325 examples to be produced this year with a 400-watt PowerBand audio system and a spry 122-horsepower 1768 cc engine, the Challenger Elite justifies its $38,499 USD price tag with enough quirks and features to make up an average Doug DeMuro review. Even so, you can still find your way into owning a base 2024 Challenger for just $26,499 USD if you're not into all the bells and whistles.

Rounding off the 2024 Indian lineup, we have the Roadmaster and the Pursuit, with a Thunderstroke 116 engine in the Roadmaster and a Powerplus V-twin in the Pursuit, these two high-end bikes take design cues from other models in the Indian lineup but give an added layer of refinement to each bike. At this premium price point, both Roadmaster and Pursuit have all the creature comforts the rest of the lineup sees as options as standard equipment. With a base MSRP of $32,999 USD for the Roadmaster and Pursuit, it is safe to say you get what you pay for.
