Over 18,600 miles. That is how much the Nissan Ariya, with a husband and a wife on board, traveled to get from the North to the South Pole on a road trip across the world, battling all kinds of temperatures and surfaces.
Chris and Julie Ramsey, husband and wife, were the ones who started on this insane mission back in spring to complete the insane journey from the North to the South Pole in the electric Nissan Ariya. It is the first successful trip of this kind, on this route, in a car, let alone an EV.

Their journey lasted ten months and covered 30,000 kilometers (18,641 miles). The two of them started off on the Arctic Sea at the 1823 Magnetic North Pole. They drove the Ariya on various surfaces, in very low temperatures, as well as scorching heat over the North, Central, and South America. Before traversing the most remote continent on the planet Earth, Antarctica, on their way to their destination.

The car that kept them safe along the challenging route was a Nissan Ariya with e-4ORCE all-wheel drive. The vehicle did not feature any modifications on the powertrain or battery. It was, though, modified to be able to accommodate 39-inch BF Goodrich tires by polar mobility specialists Arctic Trucks.

The Ramseys have been planning this trip since 2017, after they completed the Mongol Rally on board their Nissan LEAF, which was the first EV to participate in the 10,000-kilometer (6,214-mile) race. So the next big step for them was to try something else that had never been done before: going from Pole to Pole in an EV.

"After so many years of planning, it doesn’t feel real," says Chris Ramsey, who admits that the journey was far more complicated than he and his wife had anticipated. Meanwhile, Julie can’t believe how much support they received throughout the trip. Now, their Pole to Pole project has become one big family, with members from all over the world.

Nissan congratulated the two and thanked them for making them proud by proving that the company’s technology delivers excitement and reliability, whether it is a trip to the office or to the North Pole.

The Ariya that Chris and Julie drove from Pole to Pole features a dual-motor powertrain, with one motor mounted at the front and another one on the rear axle for a total output of

The model is equipped with a 91 kWh battery pack that stores enough energy for an EPA-rated range of 272 miles on a single charge when the car is equipped with the standard 19-inch wheels and tires. But the Ariya that drove from pole to pole received some beefy rubber that surely altered the official range figures.
