As with all the fluids in your Corolla, the brake fluid needs periodical replacement, which should be mentioned in your user’s manual.
All you need is fresh brake fluid according to your vehicle’s model, rubber gloves, 8 and 7mm wrenches, a rubber hose, a plastic container, a jack and the wheel wrench. Here’s how to do it:
- Jack the car and secure it
- Remove its wheels
- Open the hood, locate the brake fluid container and open its cap
- Locate the bleeding nozzle next to each brake disc
- Take the rubber hose, connect one end at the bleeding nozzle and place the other end in the plastic container filled halfway with brake fluid
- Use the wrench and loosen the nozzle a bit until the fluid starts to come out
- Press the brake pedal repeatedly to evacuate the fluid
- Make sure the main brake fluid tank doesn’t get completely empty - gradually add fresh fluid until you think the old one is out
- Tighten the nozzle and remove the hose
- Do the same for the rear axle.
