Deactivating airbags in your Toyota Corolla, or any other car in fact, is dangerous and pretty much pointless, since it is there to save your life in an accident.
But if you want to turn your 2001 Corolla into a demolition match racer, you can take them off if you know how. You will need a basic toolbox and a bit of courage. Here’s how to it:
  • Open up the hood and disconnect both terminals from the battery
  • Secure the cables’ position so it won’t touch the battery terminal
  • Leave the car for about half an hour so that any residual electricity in the vehicle will be dissipated
  • You can now go and safely disconnect the electric wires from the airbag in order to remove it.

However, we strongly suggest to go for a specialist. As you can see from the video bellow, an airbag going off into your face is not like a soft pillow.
