As with the other fluids in your Toyota Corolla, the power steering fluid will loose its properties after a while and it will require a replacement.
The job can be done easily at home, using some pliers, a catchpan and of course the replacement steering fluid according to your model. Also, don’t forget to grab a pair of rubber gloves, as the fluid is quite toxic for your skin. Here’s how it’s done:
- Open up the hood and locate the steering fluid container. It should be located on the passenger side
- Put the catchpan under the vehicle to collect all the spilled fluid that will come
- Use the pliers to open the safety rings attached to the two hoses connected to the container
- Remove the hoses and let all the fluid drain out the container
- Reattach the hoses and put the safety rings back
- Refill the container with fresh steering fluid up until the indicated level
- Start up the engine and turn the steering wheel to full lock in both directions in order too bleed the system and release any air bubbles
- Put the cap back on the fluid container and wipe any spillage.
