Bad fuel, containing impurities or water may severely damage the fuel injectors. Replacing them is pretty dangerous, due to the system’s pressure and the fact you’ll work with flamable substances around. So, if you have little mechanical skills is best you see a service.
For replacing the fuel injectors on a Toyota VVTi engine, you’ll need a 10mm socket ratchet, flathead screwdriver and replacement injectors according to your vehicle’s model. Here are the steps:
- Open the hood
- Disconnect the battery and put the terminal away so it won’t cause a spark
- Depressurize the fuel system (see video’s description on Youtube)
- Remove the two bolts and take out the plastic engine cover
- Remove the hose plugged on the right side of the valve cover
- Unscrew the bolts holding the fuel rail according to the video
- Disconnect the wires plugged in each injector
- Take out the fuel rail containing the injectors
- Remove the injectors from the fuel rail and replace them with the new ones
- Put everything back following the same steps backwards.
