The Cadillac CTS-V was the original American rival to BMW M, even going as far as to offer a wagon body. And even though that nameplate is dead, its spirit lives on in the upcoming CT4-V and CT5-V performance sedans.
The two have already been shown with mild setups that angered many fans, but those were only meant to rival stuff like the Audi S4, perhaps not even that. After playing with our emotion a little bit, Cadillac has begun testing a fleet of hardcore sedan accompanied by such Bavarian beasts as the M2 Competition and the M5.

The most important out of all the prototypes here is the black-and-white CT5-V, which is probably the closest to a direct replacement for the CTS-V and its monster 6.2-liter 640-horsepower supercharged V8.

Rumors talked about this bad boy being powered by the 4.2-liter twin-turbo, earning it the name CT5-V Blackwing. However, our spies didn't pick up any of the trademark sounds of a twin-turbo system. A supercharger can neither be confirmed or ruled out at this point. We could either end up with something like the LT4 or a simple, back-to-basics sports sedan along the lines of the Lexus GS F, which still wouldn't be too bad.

One thing the CT5-V didn't have while testing is a manual. On the other hand, a prototype for the CT4-V did, most likely combined with some sort of twin-turbocharged V6. Don’t forget the lack-luster CT5-V that was shown came with a 355-horsepower from a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which would be up to the job, while the CT4-V packed 320-horsepower from a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder.

Other highlights from this amazing photo gallery 275/35 R18 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S rubber at the back of the CT4-V, twin calipers per rotor in places, some extra ground effects, trunk spoilers, and enlarged air intakes.
