The British tabs like the phrase “lawless London” a lot – so much so that they use it almost on a daily basis. A new video, shot in traffic in the British capital, shows that there’s a good chance it’s not an exaggeration.
The footage in question emerged online on Twitter, from where it went viral. It shows a masked youth approaching a stationary SUV at a run, opening the back door and then throwing a lighted firework inside.
“Welcome to London where we put fireworks in random people's cars,” the person who filmed it and made it public writes in the caption.
Luckily, the young man’s idea of a “prank” didn’t work, because the firework bounced back on the pavement, going off very close to his feet. Whether someone caught it threw it back out, or it bounced back on the seat we might never know.
Still, the most troublesome aspect of this incident is the realization that it’s not an isolated one. Most commenters on the original post used the space to lament on the sad reality of traffic in London, but there are also those who confirm something similar had happened to them.
The bottom line is that driving in London is riskier today than ever before. Drivers are warned to keep all doors locked at all times and to be wary of masked people trying to distract their attention. As one commenter explains, one such masked youth on a bike tried to distract him by telling him he had a busted light, while another tried to open the car doors and the trunk, presumably to steal whatever he would find there. The driver had locked them, so he wasn’t fooled.
The firework stunt was probably just for fun, or better said, someone’s twisted idea of it. Had there been a baby in the backseat or had the firework gone off inside the vehicle as planned, the consequences could have been fatal.
