Honda have announced the recall of close to half-a-million CR-V crossovers from Europe and the US, after discovering that the drivers’ power window switches may malfunction, overheat and ultimately catch fire.
The issue is caused by water which seeps into the switchgear, causing it the reported issue. The CR-Vs in question were manufactured between 2002 and 2006, and they total 489,000, of which 220,000 are located in Europe, while the remaining 268,000 are from the US. To these, Honda has added an additional 100 units sold in Africa.
According to official reports, there have been a total of five window switch-related fires, yet no injuries have yet been reported. The Japanese giant is clearly going through a rough patch, having to recall this many vehicles, after announcing another major recall, that of some 600,000 Accords in North America alone, regarding an altogether different issue.
