We drove the (then) new Honda CR-V a while back, and we really liked the comfortable ride the Japanese SUV was offering. And it wasn't the kind of comfort that simply numbs everything on the outside, but rather a sense of serenity that still keeps you in touch with your surroundings. Yes, it's an old man's car, but we all secretly enjoy driving vehicles like these every now an then. Be honest: when there's a long, boring road ahead of you, what would you rather have: a hot hatch, or a car that silently whoosehes you away?
With the addition of the nine-speed automatic gearbox from ZF, the Honda CR-V becomes even more composed, shuffling through those nine gears with ease and (almost) always finding the right one in every situation.

It brings the level of comfort one step up, and as we've stated earlier it was already at a pretty high altitude. It also helps make the most of the 1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine, which offers 160 hp and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. That may not sound like a lot, but it's more than enough to move the medium-sized SUV with aplomb, if you don't mind a 10 second 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time.

But the place where the new CR-V really shines is the boot, offering a lot more space in the luggage compartment than its closest competitors with 589 liters (20.9 cu-ft). In fact, the CR-V offers plenty of space all-round, be it up front or in the rear seats, with some clever storage compartments scattered around the cabin as well.

It may not awaken the pilot inside you, but it will grant him a very nice and comfortable sleep, while the regular you enjoys a car that has so much to offer. How much? Read our full review and find out.
