I’m not sure about the second part of that name, but the first is certainly appropriate.
The custom beauty you see here is the work of a California-based enterprise named Kick Start Garage. Browsing through its portfolio reveals a plethora of flawless builds that look absolutely sensational, and the exploit we’ll be analyzing today is perhaps the juiciest of them all. Let’s take a minute to admire this machine.
For this project, KSG’s selected donor was a 1966 Honda CB160. From the factory, it is brought to life by an air-cooled SOHC parallel-twin powerplant with a humble displacement of 161cc. At approximately 10,000 rpm, this tiny motor is capable of delivering 16.5 hp via a four-speed transmission to the rear wheel by means of a chain final drive.
All things considered, the CB160’s performance figures aren’t exactly impressive, but the same can’t be said about Kick Start Garage’s majestic makeover. For starters, Cali’s moto craftsmen honored its weary engine with a comprehensive overhaul using a selection of modern internals. As soon as their work on the four-stroke parallel-twin was complete, KSG re-laced the fiend’s hoops with fresh spokes.
Next, the specialists drew inspiration from vintage sports cars to fabricate a pair of leather-clad side panels for the bike’s fuel tank. At the rear end, you will find a round aftermarket taillight, along with a one-off tail section hand-shaped using metal sheets and a repurposed fender. Additionally, a quilted leather saddle can be spotted in between, so it’s quite safe to say that handsome upholstery is the name of the game here.
After discarding the standard exhaust system in favor of a heat-wrapped counterpart, KSG blessed the CB160’s front end with a retro-style fairing and a yellow-tinted headlight. Finally, the crew topped things off by enveloping the bodywork in a timeless beige base, while copper accents were added to the rims and twin exhaust mufflers.
Kick Start dubbed their creature “Penny Racer” to hint at the extensive use of copper, but we’d say the caramel leather is, by far, the most notable highlight on this build.
