Honda Battle of the Bands Coming to Atlanta

A new year, 365 more days of fun... What better way to start the penultimate year of human existence (yes, some of us are Maya calendar believers) than to attend the first major event for the masses of the year?

Honda, the Japanese manufacturer who supports the Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase, hopes that some 60,000 people in Atlanta and not only feel the same way. All of them are expected to attend the event which will take place on January 28 at the Georgia Dome.

The event itself is, as some of you know for the past nine years or so, the place where the nation’s elite marching bands come together and show what they can do. This year, if you attend the event, you will witness one of the following bands (each of them will receive from Honda $20,000 for their entry in the final, while the 37 other participant bands, which have been kicked, received $1,000 grants for their music programs):

  • Albany State University “Marching Rams Show Band”
  • Tennessee State University “Aristocrat of Bands”
  • Virginia State University “Trojan Explosion Marching Band”
  • Clark Atlanta University “Mighty Marching Panthers”
  • Jackson State University “The Sonic Boom of the South”
  • Winston-Salem State University “Red Sea of Sound”
  • South Carolina State University “Marching 101”
  • Bethune Cookman University “Marching Wildcats”

On top of it all, Honda commissioned Bow Wow to lead the 1,800 student musicians in the gargantuan event. Some hip hop music might (read for sure) be thrown in there by the organizers of the event to spice things up a bit.
