Last week was a busy time for motorcycle lovers, as several of the world's biggest bike makers, like Triumph and Buell, announced some very exciting models (or changes to existing ones) for the new model year. The Japanese from Honda joined the party as well, with upgrades announced for its flagship adventure model.
That would be the Africa Twin, a dual-sport machine that has been around in one form or another ever since the late 1980s. For 2024, the changes to the model may not be very extensive, but they are worth at least a closer look. Especially given how there is now a better differentiation between the two models of the range.

2024 will see Honda field two Africa Twin versions, the basic one and the Adventure Sports ES. They share many of the components, but there are things that set them apart as well, in light of the different uses they target.

We'll start with the things the two have in common, and that means first and foremost the engine. That would be a unit 1,083cc in displacement, liquid-cooled and running a four-stroke parallel twin configuration.

The engine was not modified in any way from before in terms of output, but its 100 horsepower and 112 Nm of torque are handled either through a manual transmission or a dual-clutch one. Updates have been made to some components, including the intake, exhaust, and electronics.

The standard Africa Twin, which is offered for 2024 in Grand Prix Red color only, comes for the new model year with several enhancements meant to accentuate its off-road uses. Honda installed a new, five-position windscreen, tubeless tires, and a revised fairing.

The motorcycle will be on dealers' lots starting May, with the manual version of the Africa Twin selling from $14,799 and the DCT one from $15,599.

The Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES is the bike intented mostly for on-road use, although it too has a lot of off-road capabilities. The changes on it are somewhat more extensive, and they also target the riding position, now affected by a lower seat height, and its road stance, impacted by a revised suspension system that is shorter than before (unclear by how much).

The bike is now supported by a new front wheel, sized at 19 inches, and there are a series of features intended to increase rider comfort, including heated grips and a larger fuel tank (again, Honda does not say how much larger).

This version of the Africa Twin is available in a single color as well, this time Pearl White. Pricing for it has been set at $17,599 for the manual version, while the DCT one is going for $18,399. The 2024 Africa Twin Adventure Sports ES will also be available in May.
