Holden's Devereux to Lead FCAI

Mike Devereux, the chairman of GM's Holden unit in Australia, was named president of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) in Australia. When accepting the position, Devereux pledged to represent the interest of all manufacturers present in the country, and not only the local producers.

“While my role at Holden focuses solely on the designing, building and selling of motor vehicles, I want to assure you all that I stand here tonight as the representative for the entire industry – manufacturers, importers, cars, light commercials and motorcycles,” Devereux was quoted as saying by GoAuto.

“I believe that we can achieve greater outcomes, particularly with government and regulators, when we stand as one united industry.”

“Australia is one of only 12 countries on the entire planet that has the capability to design, engineer and manufacture a motor vehicle from start to finish. That’s something of which we should all be incredibly proud."

Devereux, former president and managing director of GM Middle East Operations has been appointed chairman and managing director of GM Holden this March, after Alan Batey moved on to become vice-president of sales and service for Chevrolet in the US.

Devereux is a 26 years GM veteran, holding position in the organization's branches in Canada, the US and the Middle East. He started as an engineering co-op student at the St Catharines Engine and Foundry Complex in 1984 and moved on to become launch manager for the 2000 Cadillac DeVille. He most recently was responsible for GM operations in the Middle East.
