Some taxi drivers will scoff if you’re carrying a teacup pup and you wish to take it with you for the ride. But here’s one for whom it made no difference that the “pet” was actually a full grown alpaca.
It happened on the streets of Cusco, Peru and, yes, there is video of it. You can also see it at the bottom of the page. Needless to say, since this is quite a rare sight, the vid has already reached viral status after first being uploaded on Instagram by user Andre J Mendivi.

“Something different,” he wrote in the caption, adding a laughing emoji. “My dad caught this on video while walking around the streets of Cusco, Peru. Check out,” he encourages his followers.

You don’t have to take his word for it, because a look at the video will prove he’s telling the truth. The way the alpaca patiently waits for its little human, a girl, to open the door, and for its older human, the girl’s father, to get in hints that this is not the first time at this rodeo.

Once the man is inside, the animal climbs on the backseat and, once seated, chills looking out the window. The person filming is shown drawing nearer to the small red car, and you can see the man inside giving directions to the driver and the alpaca staring distractedly out the window. Again, it’s clear that it’s been around the block a few times – in a taxi, no less.

For what it’s worth, in most countries, it’s up to the driver if they want to take a passenger accompanied by a pet and their decision is usually influenced by factors like size, breed and even the length of the animal’s hair. The only legal stipulation regarding animals concerns companion / assistance dogs, which are allowed in taxis at no extra cost. This alpaca is not that, so a slow clap to a very understanding driver.
