By keeping things simple, Ford has managed to obtain the high ground over its rivals from Dodge and Chevrolet, with a new generation Mustang. The muscle car sticks to the internal combustion engine recipe and will soon dominate this class.
How come? Because both the Chevrolet Camaro and the Dodge Challenger (and Charger) are soon going away. And it's not only with a limited edition model in the vein of the '24 Camaro or Dodge's Last Call series, but with the S650 generation that should stick around for a few good years, maybe until close to the end of the decade.

The track-focused and ultra-pricey Mustang GTD will soon become the range-topping flavor of the series in late 2024 or early 2025, albeit in limited numbers. Subsequently, the new Shelby GT500 is said to follow it, presumably in 2025, if everything goes as planned. In all likelihood, the upcoming Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will be punchier than the GTD, whose targeted output is around 800 hp.

Dodge is also readying a new muscle car for late 2024. Presumably using the Charger nameplate, it will enter showrooms as a 2025 model year. But Chevy has somehow managed to lose its role in the Holy Trinity, as the current Camaro is about to bite the dust. The bowtie brand has confirmed that this isn't the last time we will hear about this moniker, but what exactly they're planning to do with it is anyone's guess.

It has been rumored that the Camaro might turn into a sub-brand, and with sporty electric crossovers selling like hotcakes these days, it might be joined by such a model. Another scenario speaks about the Camaro making a comeback as an all-new muscle car. And with Ford offering the latest Mustang with ICE power solely and the next Dodge Charger being expected to have both EV and ICE power, the logical move would be to make it an electron-sipping beast with zero tailpipes.

This would separate it from its direct rivals and would also make it futureproof, as the GM-owned car brand would be able to keep it around well into the next decade, albeit with the usual mid-cycle refreshes and constant mechanical upgrades. But is this indeed what lies in store when it comes to the Camaro? Your guess is as good as ours, though we wouldn't bet on it. And it will certainly be interesting to find out what Chevy plans to do with it.

With the Camaro's future being shrouded in a cloud of mystery, some have gone the extra mile to determine if there is room for a more traditional muscle car in the company's portfolio, one that might bring back an iconic nameplate from their past. Yep, it is the Chevelle, as you already know from the title, which is trying to enjoy its 15 minutes of digital fame. Multiple renderings of such a model have graced the World Wide Web recently, including these ones that came from AutomagzPro on YouTube.

One does not have to be a connoisseur to tell that it was the outgoing sixth-gen Camaro that was used as a blank canvas to make it happen. Well, blank canvas may be an overstatement, as the pixel rearranging process was rather mild, hence why it still looks like a tuned Camaro. It retains the overall shape of the muscle car, as well as the front and rear fascias, though it is on the more aggressive side of things in terms of design.

It features LED lighting at both ends, rides on new concave wheels that fill the fat arches very well, and has minimal ground clearance. Thus, given this stance and the Camaro's platform, it would likely behave more like a sports car than a muscle car. That would be a breath of fresh air in the segment that would keep it from becoming the next curb bender whenever an overenthusiastic owner leaves a car meet and decides to abuse the right pedal.

But it would need to materialize, and for that to happen, Chevy would have to pour multiple million dollars into its development. Mind you, we think it would certainly sell in enough numbers to make it viable, and it could be tied to the next-gen Camaro, especially if the latter becomes an EV and the hypothetical Chevelle uses gasoline power to go to and fro.

Without probably realizing it, these rendering artists may indeed give General Motors a few ideas as to what the future of the muscle car should be. Or at least the transitioning process to the electric era, as having both an EV and an ICE muscle car in its portfolio would probably allow Chevy to better rival the likes of the latest Ford Mustang and next-gen Dodge Charger. But could it convince you to blow your money on it, or would you be more interested in what the competition has to offer?
