When it showed the latest interpretation of the Shelby GT500 back in June, Ford said the car is “the most powerful, fastest and advanced Ford model yet.” To support the claim, the Blue Oval released a wealth of specs, but did not make public the exact acceleration figures.
At the time, Ford only said the car is capable of mid-three-second 0-60 mph acceleration and sub-11-second quarter-mile runs, but failed to provide exact numbers. These numbers are still unknown, even after Ford released new data on the car on Monday, August 5.

From now on, though, we have a better idea of what the Mustang GT500 monster is all about.

The car, with its 5.2-liter aluminum alloy engine under the hood, is capable of reaching 100 mph from a standstill and then brake hard to full stop in 10.6 seconds, a performance that is similar to those of pure-breed supercars.

“The range of brute-force drag acceleration, seamless road shifts and amazingly smooth shifts on the track further highlights how the soul of the Shelby GT500 is elevated in our most advanced Mustang ever,” said in a statement Ed Krenz, Ford Performance chief program engineer.

“Effortlessly handling the 760 horsepower is our segment-first Tremec dual-clutch transmission, with an advanced control system that enhances GT500’s five drive modes to deliver a driving experience once reserved only for exotic supercars.”

The monster engine of the GT500 develops 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the wheels via the brand new TREMEC 7-speed transmission Krenz talks about, one that can shift gears in 80 milliseconds when set in sport mode.

The GT500 can configure itself to handle a variety of terrain and driving styles, including normal, slippery, sport, drag and track.

Although many of the details for the new GT500 are already known, several essential pieces of the puzzle, including price, are yet to be revealed.
