One thing you'll never cease to hear belly-aching about is that modern American full-size trucks are ultra-luxurious, uber-expensive shells of the workhorses they used to be. In an era where finding an entry-level, full-size work truck feels like taking out a mortgage, you need a reminder every once in a while of what older trucks used to be. But even by those standards, this 1994 Ford F-350 XLT crew cab with a little secret in the engine bay is a bit special.
On first impressions, this looks like a perfectly typical 90s vintage heavy-duty, dually Ford truck. Trucks that, at one point in time, practically built America in during the late 1990s and early 2000s. This particular body style of F-Series trucks was manufactured at Ford's production facility in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, from 1992 to 1997, as well as other facilities in Missouri, Virginia, Kentucky, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil, and a few others. In other words, it was a far more global vehicle than its all-American persona might lead you to believe.

From the factory, this brutish one-ton dually hit showroom floors with a 4.90-liter, straight-six gas engine, and two gas V8s ranging from 5.8 to 7.3 liters, or the tried and true 7.3-liter IDI turbodiesel engine that'd go on to define the "rolling coal" movement of the early 2000s. Said turbodiesel engine is what's under the hood of this white F-350 XLT dually. It's one of those classical automotive marriages that's like the bread and butter for truck fans. But even by 7.3 IDI standards, this truck's engine has a little something extra that didn't come from the factory.

In the place of this 7.3's stock turbocharging system, a more robust aftermarket Sidewinder turbo kit from Banks Power of Azusa, California, gives an extra layer of "oomph" to an otherwise very dependable truck. Gale Banks eponymously founded the company in the early 1960s, which specializes in high-performance drivetrain equipment for classic and contemporary diesel engine platforms. Apart from their operations on the civilian side of things, Banks has teamed up with the U.S. Navy Seals and Oshkosh Defense in support of the 866T turbodiesel engine program meant to power the potential HUMVEE-replacement, the Oshkosh JLTV.

If those credentials are not enough credentials to get you interested, it's time to start paying attention. Whatever the case, the rest of this classic dual F-350 is up to snuff in the cosmetic department. With sparkling white paint, shiny, scratch-free alloy wheels, and a utilitarian but fairly clean grey cloth interior, you couldn't find a truck in this configuration today if you paid a private investigator to scour every dealership in America. That's why we're shocked this eBay listing didn't meet its reserve price and only hit 10,100. But hey, there's always next time.
