If you’re putting together a souped-up Mark 3 Toyota Supra, you might want to consider replacing the standard reverse bulbs with some HID ones. Why? Because you’ll surely take your baby out for night driving and you don’t want to back up into a pole or curb on a dark alley after all that work.
Those white lights that show up every time you engage into reverse have two main purposes - during daytime, they alert other road users you are going to back up you car and during nighttime, they will also illuminate the road behind to reveal obstacles.
However, being such an old ride, a Mk3 Supra will come with some yellowish, inefficient reverse lights that won’t do much for the night reversing job. That’s why some guys, like Freddy here from Poor Man Mods, prefer to replace them with something brighter and more powerful like HID (High Intensity Discharge) bulbs.
We believe some LEDs could also do the job, but here you’ll only see how to reverse your way with HIDs. You’ll need an HID conversion kit, some screws, a power drill and a couple of big washers.
The job is pretty simple, you need to remove the old bulbs, cut a bigger hole for the HIDs to fit in, secure them with the washers and screws, cut and splice two wires to redo the connections and that’s about all.
If you can’t decide what bulbs to go for, Freddy used some H3 6000K ones in his tutorial video bellow.
