Remember the McLaren F1? For a significant number of people, the F1 is one of the greatest cars of all time, one that not even the company that made it was able to replicate. But maybe its designer, Gordon Murray, will manage to do that with the T.50.
This new addition to the segment is supposed to be “the purest, lightest, most driver-focused supercar ever built,” but most importantly a worthy successor to the model that became a motoring icon back in the 1990s.
Like most other machines of its type, this one too will be built in limited numbers – just 100 units – and sold for at least £2 million ($3.5 million) a piece, before taxes.
And now that Gordon Murray Automotive has a dedicated dealer it the U.S., the man's true fans have no reason not to buy one.
The Brit said last week, as a confirmation of a deal expected since July, he selected the company run by retired American race car driver Bruce Canepa as T.50’s official sales outlet on the continent. The organization will also handle customer service, maintenance, and warranty.
“Cars are meant to be driven, and this may be one of the most exciting road cars ever designed. I am both honored and excited to be a part of this amazing project,” the American said when the announcement was made.
There’s no telling though when the car actually gets here.
The GMA T.50, as it is officially called, is to be powered by a Cosworth naturally-aspirated 3.9-liter V12 that develops 650 hp and 450 Nm of torque. Used together with a six-speed transmission, the engine promises to be the highest-revving engine ever used in a production car, spinning at mind-dazzling speeds of 12,100 rpm.
As for how the car will look, there’s not much to go on except what Murray himself showed in the form of sketches earlier in June.
