The McLaren F1 was the pinnacle of technology when it was launched back in 1993 and it took a very long time until a 1001 hp hypercar appeared and took the crown for the fastest car in the world.

It was the most advanced car of its time and some of its technical solutions were adopted years later by other exclusive supercars. The McLaren F1 held the world's fastest production car in the world when, in 1998, it reached 391 kph (240 mph). It took years for the Bugatti to show-up and get to 407 kph.

The design was signed by Gordon Murray, who was responsible for the McLaren F1 team at that time. It was the same era when McLaren ran with Honda engines. In the beginning, Gordon Murray asked Honda to make the engine, but the Japanese manufacturer declined the offer. This is how Gordon Murray asked the same question to BMW, and they said yes. In a very short period of time, one of the best engines of all times was made: a naturally aspirated 266 kg V12 unit that offered 627 hp. On the 1995 special edition F1 LM, the engine produced up to 668 hp from the 6.1-liter unit.

The bodywork was way ahead of its time. It featured three seats, with the driver placed in the middle and the other two left and right, but a little bit behind the driver.
