With Opel’s disastrous start to the year, counting losses of over€250 million in the first quarter, GM execs are pondering the idea of moving some of their Chevrolet production from South Korea to Opel factories in Europe.
At the current rate of losses, Opel will be forced to close down factories and lay off workers. Building the Chevy Cruise and the Aveo in Europe would use the factories up to their full capacity and, thanks to good sales numbers in the first quarter for Chevrolet, will move the cars quicker instead of keeping them in the back of dealership parking lots months at a time.
