General Motors could offer an affordable rear-wheel drive sports car in the future, company president Mark Reuss revealed last week.
Speaking to Automotive News, GM’s boss said a modestly priced rear-wheel drive vehicle that would rival the Toyota GT 86 / Scion FR-S / Subaru BRZ might “ring a bell” among young drivers.
“A really nice, light, rear-drive car that’s inexpensive - we know that rings a bell. That’d be a huge win for us if we had that,” Reuss told our source, hinting at the highly acclaimed Chevrolet Code 130R concept revealed early last year.
However, Reuss stated that if Chevrolet were to offer such a car, the design wouldn’t be related to the concept and that the vehicle would be underpinned by a platform that’s “really scaleable and efficient”.
To be able to compete with the Toyota GT 86 and it’s Scion and Subaru-badged siblings, the new volume Chevrolet should hit the market with a mid-$20,000 price tag.
