With the 2014 Corvette Stingray being least four months away from rolling off the assembly line, Chevrolet keeps revealing new details about their new sportscar.
After releasing the vehicles encouraging US pricing, which is similar to the C6’s price tag, the latest piece of information reveals something that might be considered strange to say least.
Though announced as 99 pounds (45 kg) lighter when compared to the previous generation Vette, thanks to a new aluminum frame, the C7 Stingray is actually 90 pounds (40 kg) heavier than the C6, having an estimated curb weight of 3,298 lbs (1,496 kg). Moreover, the Z51 package is expected to add another 150 to 200 lbs (68 to 91 kg) to the new Corvette, but these figures have yet to be confirmed by Chevy.
However, the extra weight shouldn’t be a problem since the new car has 20 HP and 26 lb-ft of torque over the C6, but it’s interesting to notice what luxury and performance upgrades can add to a sportscar’s total mass.
