Revealed more than two months ago at the Daytona International Speedway, the 2014 Chevrolet SS was introduced to the public at last month’s New York Auto Show.
Overshadowed by the Camaro Z/28 and the Corvette Stingray Convertible at the Jacob Javits Convention Center, the company’s new performance sedan got its official walkaround just two weeks after the event was over.
“The 2014 Chevrolet SS is really a rear-wheel-drive performance sedan. It’s based on the next generation global rear-wheel-drive architecture found under the Camaro. It’s actually an expansion of the Camaro and it has more utility and more luxury than any full-size sedan out there,” said John Fitzpatrick, marketing manager for Chevrolet performance cars.
As a reminder, the Chevrolet SS is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivers 415 HP and 415 lb-ft (562 Nm) of torque. Paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, the mill is able to get the sedan from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in five seconds.
Chevy’s new Holden Commodore-based Chevrolet SS is slated to go on sale in fourth quarter 2013.
