Originally expected to be called ‘Levante’, Maserati’s 5-Series rival will, in fact, revive a name last used between 1967 and 1973, as well as later, between 1992 and 1997. However, this is the first car with more than two doors, which bears the name.
This means that the ‘Levante’ name is now free to be put on the back of Maserati’s upcoming SUV, which we now know will not be called ‘Kubang’, as we were originally led to believe. Sadly, despite being suggested that they may be showing their smaller sedan at this year’s Paris Motor Show, it turns out that they chose not to. We expect the new car to be shown at next year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, after Maserati debuts the new Quattroporte, also next year, but in Detroit.

Being a Maserati, we have good reason to be excited and our expectations bar for this upcoming car is set extremely high, and it needs to deliver, as a smaller volume car would lift the famed Italian brand out of the shroud of financial uncertainty once and for all.
