With the growing trend toward minimalism and compact travel trailers, those who are currently on the market for a small, super-lightweight, and easy-to-set-up RV that they can use to explore the wonderful outdoors are spoiled for choice. But while most options available on the market are meant to be towed behind a car, very few can be equipped with sleds and hooked behind a snowmobile. Quebec-based company Genimax Trailers has identified this gap in the market and created a small camping trailer ready to take on snow and ice-covered roads.
Called the Genimax HR, their solution is a versatile, pint-sized towable trailer with a pop-up roof tent that is built to offer outdoor enthusiasts a practical and reliable camping option for year-round adventures. Thanks to its ability to be equipped with skis and ride on snow, you no longer have to restrain your adventurous spirit during the winter months.

Genimax Trailers has been in the camping trailer industry since 2017, and they focus on developing light yet functional "ready-to-camp solutions" for those who want to go on adventures with their families. The Genimax HR was born out of the desire to offer a versatile, compact camping solution for all seasons. It boasts a lightweight yet durable construction that combines an aluminum monocoque frame with a shell made of rust-resistant composite materials. What's more, high-resistance polyurethane adhesive was used to seal up the spaces in the roof and walls, resulting in a durable, watertight box.

In terms of dimensions, it only measures about 60 inches (152 cm) in width and 8.7 feet (2.7 meters) in length. The compact size, combined with a total weight of just 375 lbs (170 kg), not only makes it easier to tow and manhandle but also offers more campsite accessibility.

Moreover, it rides on a high-performance independent suspension which ensures enough ground clearance to make it capable of tackling tougher terrain. More precisely, the HR boasts a 1,200-lb (544-kg) off-road suspension devoid of axles that allows for a generous 825-pound (374-kg) payload, opening up a world of possibilities when it comes to customization.

But the real selling point of this compact trailer is its ability to be equipped with skis and ride smoothly on snow or ice. The wheels can be easily removed and replaced by skis, which brings the overall trailer width to 48 inches (122 cm) and ensures the HR is ready for winter camping.

Designed with utility in mind, the Genimax HR can be used either as a simple cargo box for your hauling needs or as a full-blown camper when equipped with the proper accessories. Don't let the basic looks fool you, as the HR can turn into a true base camp when fully outfitted with camper options such as a rooftop tent, outdoor kitchen, awning, and solarized off-grid electrical power.

The trailer is configured with two massive lockable drawers - one on the side and one at the rear - each with a capacity of 200 pounds (91 kg), making it suitable for transporting cargo or camping gear. One of the drawers will act as the outdoor kitchen with a removable stainless-steel countertop, a folding built-in sink, and a 10-liter fresh water tank.

For the owners' accommodation needs, the company offers a 200-pound-rated roof rack with a 48'' X 84'' rooftop tent that can sleep two adults and a child. And to ensure they stay warm even during their winter adventures, Genimax offers an optional diesel heater and heating blanket. An 80W rooftop solar panel with adjustable tilt, a marine battery, and an inverter will cater to the owners' power needs, while a retractable awning will extend the living space to the outside.

All of the above are features that can be integrated into the trailer, but the manufacturer also offers side tracks for those who need even more options to enhance their camping experience. These will let owners mount other accessories like a propane tank, a hand shower, a jerry can, and more. The extended list of accessories also includes a stove, 20-liter and 35-liter electric fridge box options, a portable lithium power station, a portable toilet, a front box with a storage volume of 160 liters, and various carriers and racks.

The basic version of the Genimax HR trailer without the optional accessories starts at CAD $8,495 (which is approximately US $6,200 at current exchange rates). The price for the fully-equipped version for camping can go up to around CAD $13,200 (US $9,700). The skis alone will cost you CAD $809 (US $590).

All in all, Genimax HR's incredible adaptability and ability to easily transition from cargo hauler to winter-ready camper on skis make it a great option for adventurers who want to explore the outdoors regardless of the weather conditions. Genimax also highlights that, with its lightweight, aerodynamic, and energy-efficient profile, the HR is an environmentally responsible choice that will allow you to reduce your ecological footprint.
